Clinical Intervention Training
Professional Requirements
Love First Clinical Intervention Training offers two distinct participation tracks: the Clinical Track and the Administrative Track. Each track has separate admission requirements and leads to a different credential. While admission requirements and credentials differ by track, all participants attend the same training together.
Clinical Track:
Love First Certified Clinical Interventionist
The Clinical Track is designed for licensed or certified clinical professionals with direct experience working with patients in addiction treatment settings.
Education and Credentials
Applicants must meet the following educational and credentialing requirements:
- An advanced degree in a relevant clinical field such as social work, counseling, psychology, or medicine, with current licensure or certification (CADC, LADC, LCSW, LPC, PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent).
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant clinical field together with a relevant certification (CADC, LADC, CAP, or equivalent) and the required clinical experience described below.
Professional Experience
- Minimum three years full-time (or five years part-time) professional experience in a licensed addiction treatment setting.
- Experience must include direct clinical work with addicted patients and responsibility for an active patient caseload, or facilitating the family program in the treatment center.
- Strong working knowledge of 12-Step recovery programs.
Professionals in Adjacent Fields
EAP counselors, pastoral counselors, ordained clergy, and clinical or administrative staff from Lawyer Assistance Programs (LAPs) and Physician Health Programs (PHPs), and academics at a university level may also qualify based on specialized credentials and experience. Applicants in these categories should submit a resume for consideration.
Administrative Track:
Administrative Certificate
The Administrative Track is designed for admissions personnel and treatment program leadership working within licensed treatment facilities.
Eligible Participants
- Admissions staff with relevant credentials who work under supervision in a licensed treatment facility.
- Treatment program leadership with relevant education and professional experience seeking administrative-level training in the Love First intervention model.
- Admissions staff and leadership in twelve-step immersion programs with relevant education and professional experience.
Important Limitation
The Administrative Certificate is intended to help treatment facility staff work more effectively with patients and families. It does not qualify participants to practice as clinical interventionists and is intended for in-house administrative use only.
Sobriety and Recovery Requirements
Training participants in recovery must have a minimum of two years of uninterrupted sobriety and an active, ongoing program of recovery prior to applying for the clinical intervention training.
